On the
auspicious occasion of World Tourism Day 2009, Nepal
Environment Tourism Initiative Foundation (NETIF) is
going to organize one-day Workshop on "Waste
Management Issues in Tourism Destinations" scheduled
on Monday, 21st of September 09, at Hotel Chautari,
Nagarkot. The workshop is aiming to enhance public
awareness among stakeholders and share experiences &
ideas in sustainable tourism and waste management
practices in Nepal.
Background:
Nepal Environment and Tourism Initiative Foundation
(NETIF) is developing cultural trekking route around
the Kathmandu valley. A sensitization on the impacts
of wastes and the ways to minimize hazards caused by
waste deposits is the pre-condition for eco-tourism
management in a tourism destination. Recognizing
this, NETIF, with the support of SUOMEN LATU and in
cooperation with NNTDC is organizing a One Day
Workshop on Waste Management Issues in the Tourism
Destination on the auspicious Occasion of World
Tourism Day 2009: Celebrating Diversity.
Objectives:
To bring together the stakeholders (tourism
professionals, development practitioners, hoteliers,
local communities and academicians) of Tourism,
Environment and Waste Management in Nepal to

Share
and disseminate experiences and learning gained
in sustainable tourism and waste management
practices in Nepal,

Consolidate lessons learned and identify good
practices on eco-friendly tourism and minimizing
waste management,

Discuss how to use the insights gained in future
work for the local stakeholders.
Expected outcome:
Local stakeholders' (hoteliers and local
communities) knowledge and information developed on
Sustainable Tourism

establishment, it has been working in different
social, environmental and tourism fields in
Kathmandu and Dhulikhel surrounding areas.
With the
joint support of Finnish NGO Suomen Latu, and NETIF,
it has planned to promote the trekking route via
Sundarijal- Chisapani-Nagarkot- Dhulikhel –
Namobuddha and named as "KATHMANDU VALLEY CULTURAL
TRAIL".
We are
delighted to inform you that Nepal Environment

organize a clean-up campaign on 25th September 08,
Thursday at Shivapuri National Park(ShNP) Area (from
Mulkharka – Sundarijal Bus Park) on the occasion of
World Tourism Day 2008.
